Conditioning Every Wo(Man)

In this work I have used the traditional Marapachi dolls that are given to young adolescent girls to play dress-up and marry the dolls through a playful ceremony. These dolls were a tool to socalize young girls, like a rites to passage, before they got married. As it was for my mother by her mother who was introduced to this by her mother. I stand as a result of their times, distinct influences and differences, just as many of my peers.

The work remains a response to way children are conditioned and how we influence their social constructs from childhood.

The City Fabric

In response to the city under constant change and construction, I carried out a public intervention to get responses from the people of Bangalore on 'what they expected from their city'. These responses were painted by the pubic on strips of cloth with black paint, the strips were later stitched together and displayed as a city fabric on buildings and at roadsides.

Dishoom

Several local tea stalls and street vendors were being evacuted from street corners. They pretty much disappeared over night. The dawning reasons ranged from traffic congestions to the construction of 'namma metro' in the city. The Tea stalls were local street hang outs were workers, students and shop owners would stop for a quick tea break. Many of them became friends to discuss politics and personal nothings. In response to the disappearances of these tea stalls and other similar such products from the markets like the increase of plush coffee shop culture and use of more plastic than traditional aluminium ware, I began painting aluminium ware so people can start using them again.  'Dishoom', was the name given to these products, which were displayed at local stores for people to buy.
